Humility as religion
That which robs you of your humility cannot be virtuous even if it is your religion or your honesty.
Humility of the vanquished and the vanquisher
The dignity of the humble is far more imposing than the hollow vanity of the high and mighty.
Humility as a social etiquette is not bad but its only when humility flows as naturally as love does that it carries any meaning. It requires greater courage in a vanquished to be humble.Easy to be humble when one is victorious or powerful.Acceptance of defeat with grace and humility is the only way to learn and move forward. however, self-respect in the defeated will always be more popular. We need to move beyond what 'looks' good or bad and on to what 'is' good or bad. That said, even humiity is not possible without self-respect. It is only because we respect ourselves that we care to be humble. ...All this requires a greater space than just a few comments here, may be.
Quality of your enemies
Let your friends choose you, but choose your enemies carefully. Nothing describes you better than the quality of your enemies. And if the quality of your enemies is better than your own, you will find no better way to get educated than to learn from them. It never pays to quarrel with a man less fortunate than you. And enemies? I only mean people you are not large enough to befriend. Try deserving their friendship.
Arrogance of the self-righteous
Beware two dangers to your humility - extreme power and extreme but misplaced renunciation. Arrogance of the self-righteous is even more lethal than the arrogance of the corrupt. Both need watching. An arrogant saint can do more damage than an arrogant King. I dread nothing more than a contemptuous honest man for he is more difficult to fight against than a contemptuous wicked man. That which robs you of your humility cannot be virtuous even if it is your religion or your honesty.
